I got into NETFLIX during the North American tour!
KASHIYUKA: During a short month stay in America for our North American tour, I was heavily into Netflix. I first started watching it to help polish up my English before going to America. The audio was in the original English and I was switching between Japanese and English subtitles to learn English words, and I tried to watch programs that were constructive and, if possible, with young women (of my generation) appearing. And there are 3 shows I really got into, so I’d like to tell you about them. The first one is Queer Eye”. (Picture 1)
anan: Oh, it’s a popular variety show!
KASHUYKA: Right, right. It’s not a girls’ story though, I’m moved to tears every time.
a-chan: What is the show like?
KASHIYUKA: It’s a kind of reality show. It is a story of 5 happy-go-lucky gay men who help people who have no self-confidence with making good use of their own specialties in food, fashion, culture, interior design and cosmetics. Before the change, he or she always has a negative attitude, like, “All right; I know I’m good-for-nothing. And I don’t look good cos I’m a blimp. Nothing can look good on me…” The 5 guys are faced with what he or she is worrying about and has a deep complex about to give them a chance to change not only his or her looks but also provide psychological care to give him or her renewed self-confidence.
a-chan : Sounds charming!
KASHIYUKA: I’m sure a-chan will be moved to tears. And, the next one is, “Westside”. (Picture 2) It is a story of 9 people in their late twenties to early thirties who are aiming at the top of the world but staying at the level of obscurity to join hands to achieve success. All of them are good singers and have outstanding characters. It’s also a reality show that shows their growth with being friendly rivals with each other. It’s still the first season, but I’m really looking forward to watching the next season.
NOCCHi: The story appeals to me.
KASHIYUKA: I told you. And the last one is, “Insatiable”. (Picture 3) This one is a drama. Patty is a teenager who was constantly bullied in school for being overweight. After being on a liquid diet in the hospital because of a fight with a homeless person, she becomes thin successfully. And her civil lawyer was also a beauty pageant coach. To get back at her old enemies, she decided to aim at winning the beauty contest. But she was recklessly driven by her insatiable vengeful thought. It is a crazy story. Only the 1st season is available, but it was really fun.
a-chan : How nice that you are choosing various dramas and shows. There’re so many social media sites including Instagram and Twitter, and also you’re watching Hulu, amazon prime and Netflix. There’re so many things for you to watch, right? I cannot choose because of too much information…
KASHIYUKA: I’m just watching the programs my friends recommended.
a-chan : Because you are open-minded at first, you know?
KASHIYUKA: During the North American tour, I spent all my time watching them while holding my smartphone in one hand while moving, being busy with so many things, and packing up at the hotel, so, why don’t you try it, a-chan!
Picture 1: “I can start to think in a constructive way cos there are so many positive words and phrases in the show.”
(“Queer Eyes” season 1~3 is available exclusively on Netflix.)
Picture 2: It is really specific and interesting for this show to intermit the story with the 9 people’s own POVs. (lol)
(“Westside” is available exclusively on Netflix.)
Picture3: “Such a black comedy is something you all are really hooked on. My List keeps growing endlessly…”
NOCCHi: “What I kept watching during the North American tour was YouTube♡”
a-chan : “For the time being, I’d like to watch “Queer Eye” that Yukachan recommended.”
